thyroiditis (De
Quervain’s thyroiditis)
is a
transient thyroditis which is
thought to be of viral aetiology. There is a swollen painful
thyroid gland with hyperthyroidism. This is usually followed
by a period of hypothyroidism with raised TSH weeks
later. Antithyroid medication is not effective. Steroids can be used
in severe cases
