Nephrocalcinosis is related to  type I (distal) renal tubular acidosis. It also causes hyperchloraemic metabolic acidosis (it is one of the causes of normal anion gap metabolic acidosis).

Type II (proximal) renal tubular acidosis is typically related to a Fanconi syndrome
(loss of amino acids, glucose, phosphate and uric acid into the urine).
