Dystonic reactions usually subsides within 24 hours following cessation of treatment and can be treated with procyclidine 5-10 mg i.m.

They are well-recognized with dopamine receptor antagonists (neuroleptics). Phenothiazines, prochloperazine, haloperidol and metclopramide are examples of drugs which can cause dystonic reactions.
