Phaeochromocytoma is a tumour of the adrenal medulla. The adrenal cortex produces aldosterone, cortisol (glucocorticoid) and adrenal androgens. The medulla produces adrenaline and noradrenaline. Phaeochromocytoma is associated with MEN II and von Hippel Lindau syndrome. There is an association with retinal, cerebral and

renal haemangiomas. Diagnosis is with raised urinary catecholamines over 24 hours, and also MIBG scan of the adrenals.
