Gammahydroxybutyric acid causes hypernatraemia, metabolic acidosis, hypokalaemia, hyperglycaemia.

Hypotension/shock, glucose >8.3 mmol/l, white cell count > 15, haemetemesis and decreased consciousness are features of severe iron poisoning.
