B cells usually require T cell help for full activation. B cells are activated in primary immune response which initially produce IgM. Deficiency of CD40 impairs class switching. Most T cell antigens have repetitive epitopes (e.g.LPS/endotoxin), which are able to cross link to B cell surface immunoglobulin to activate these cells.
